Here are 5 quick
tips that may help new graduates with the infamous job search.
- Get resume and
cover letter critiqued – your summer job resume will not suffice
for permanent employment upon completion of school
- Be productive
with your time – review postings on daily basis, highlighting
closing dates and then prioritize the postings; attend a job
search seminar for insights on the realities of today’s job
search
- Stay organized
– keep copies of each of the postings applied for (organized by
closing dates) with a tracking sheet (submissions and contact
info) and a copy of the respective resume/cover letter, any
research completed on company or job
- Do practice
interviews – be sure to ask someone who will give
productive/objective feedback. Videotaping the interview is an
excellent way to “see” just how you perform – pros and cons
- Relax, do
research and get connected – with today’s labour market, try not
to get overly anxious if you do not land a job right away. Use
the time to learn about your chosen career – informational
interviews are great; work on establishing your network; contact
companies directly
