First Step Information Session
First Step is approximately a 1 hour information session that is intended to provide participants with the opportunity to recognize what building blocks they already have and which they need to acquire in order to conduct a successful job search. The session will also identify what services and service providers are available locally in Northumberland to assist with the challenges of job searching.
Note: First Step is part of the required process to gain access or referrals to any government sponsored employment initiative (this includes retraining funds, self-employment programs, etc).
First Step sessions are free and are held according to the following schedule:
Cobourg: (weekly)
Monday* 11:00-12:00 pm
Wednesday 9:30-10:30 am
*with the exception of statutory holidays, in which case they are on the Tuesday immediately following the holiday
Port Hope: (bi-weekly)
Tuesday 1:00-2:00
(free daycare available at Ontario Early Years - call for information and to register - space is limited!!)
Colborne: (last week of every month):
Thursday 2:00-3:00
To take your First Step to employment, you can register at either of our offices, through Watton Employment Services or through the Internet using the Ask A Job Coach link below. Simply indicate your preferred location and day of the week (if applicable). You will receive a confirmation of your registration if completed through Ask A Job Coach. As well, all registrants will receive a reminder call the day prior to the chosen session.
