Introducing Generation-Wise

 There is a new employment service in town geared towards matching job seekers that are 55 year of age or over (“Generation-Wise”) to local employers on a full-time, part-time or occasional basis. Opportunities may include, but are not limited to the following areas of employment: health, office/business, food services, education, retail specialties, and tourism services.

 The employment trends for over 55s

The trend toward the Generation-Wise employment has strengthened and the need to assist retirees into the workforce has also become more urgent.  While the retirement age has steadily dropped over the past 20 years, the desire to work has increased in people over the age of 55.  The percentage of men and women wanting to stay in the workforce has been increasing since the 1990s, thus reversing the previous trend toward early retirement.  One third of all retirees re-enter the job market within two years of retirement.  Even though Generation-Wise are more active in the employment market, it is still harder than ever to find good jobs.

 Positions and salaries

For many Generation-Wise, retirement income is insufficient and the employment income level is important.  For others, retirement lifestyle is not what was anticipated and the rewards of part time, fulfilling work are required.
