Career Week – What a Success!

If you came into CERC during the week of November 1 – 5th, you certainly were in for a

real treat!  Literally speaking, we had cookies and cake, but you also saw your favourite staff members dressed up in various occupational “uniforms”.  We had a police officer, a truck driver, a baker, an electrician,  a hospitality server, an educational assistant and a retail salesperson.  You might have also had the opportunity to learn more about a career that was of interest to you as the staff had prepared lots of materials about different occupations.

The following is a list of what’s available so even if you missed Career Week you can still get your copy of the careers that were highlighted.

·     Food and Beverage Server

·     Managers in Food Service

·     Maitre D’Hotel and Host/Hostess

·     Bartender

·     Baker

·     Truck Driver

·     Educational Assistant

·     Elementary School and Kindergarten Teacher

·     Early Childhood Educators and Assistants

·     Construction and Maintenance Electrician

·     Firefighter

·     Police Officer

·     Ambulance Attendant/Paramedic

·     Retail Salesperson

Winners of the Portfolios from Career Week were:

Ken McCutchen of Port Hope and

Robert Hacala of Cobourg

“We care.”  Those are the sentiments of Bev Eldridge and Heidi Reid, partners in HR Link; a new employment staffing agency in Northumberland County.  HR Link, according to Bev and Heidi, has a lot to offer the job seeker and with their combined experience of over 25 years in employment services, they hope that you’ll contact them if you are looking for work.

HR Link offers temporary, contract and permanent placements in the following areas:  Industrial/

Manufacturing/General Labour; Clerical; Hospitality; and Accounting.  Once you contact HR Link, you will be invited to attend an appointment where information will be gathered about your work history and a plan will be put in place so that HR Link can assist you with finding suitable employment.  “We care about your future and want to get you working as quickly as possible,” say Bev and Heidi.  In addition to finding a job placement, “job coaching will be provided as an added service to help you keep yourself employed.” Recently featured in the Northumberland County Business Times, Bev and Heidi state “we love our community and are excited to operate locally linking excellent talent with progressive clients in Northumberland.  In other words, if you want to work we can help you, give us a call.”

You can reach HR Link by calling 373-4400, by sending an email to resumes@hr-link.com, or by faxing them at 905-373-4401.  In closing, Bev and Heidi want to assist you and believe, “work … it’s in you to give.”

To Every Job-Seeker who comes to CERC

November 12, 2004

I wanted to offer up this testimonial of my personal experience visiting CERC on a daily basis as a job-seeker for the past 6 months

First of all, let me say that, without the incredible staff and services at both CERC offices in Cobourg and Port Hope, I would not have my new job in Toronto.  I spent many months searching for work and the CERC staff was always extremely knowledgeable, helpful and incredibly generous with their patience and time.  On a couple of occasions, some of the staff even stayed late so I could do a little extra emergency work trying to nail down a job.

I noticed total dedication, not just to me, but to every single member that came into the office.  And I know that some people who came through the doors weren’t the easiest to deal with but the CERC staff never lost their cool in dealing with tough situations.  True professionals in every way.

Anybody seeking employment, you will definitely succeed if you use the exceptional services of CERC.  And I can’t say enough good things about the staff who I actually consider my friends now.

Wherever I go I will always recommend CERC and its wonderful staff.  Thank you, ladies!  You are the best!

Yours sincerely,

Joe Edwards
