Computers: 

Both of the CERC labs are serviced with thin clients rather than desktop computers.  The advantages of using thin clients include:

• Less chance of breakdown or disruption in service
• Less likely to have viruses and spyware issues as there isn’t a hard drive
• Networked to a server so all information is kept secure on a server rather than individual hard drives – increased confidentiality

Because of this thin client/server network, clients can have their job search materials saved to personal folders on the server for easy access any time they are in town.

CERC has the Microsoft Office software available for clients as well as the following:

• Choices – an independent assessment program to help identify strengths, possible career change direction, listing of Canadian post secondary schools for furthering education, a database of approx 1000 occupations with details on each one in terms of requirements, work environment, prospects, websites, etc
• Free computer tutorials to become more familiar with programs and computers in general
• Free typing test to practice for interview testing
•  Online job search management tool to keep your job search organized and access to the hidden job market (unique to CERC!)
